18 photos that will inspire you to contemplate the possibility of humans and animals cohabitating in peace…
It’s not entirely realistic, but the concept of animals and humans co-existing in busy, urban environments is thought-provoking, to say the least.
No doubt this is what artist Ceslovas Cesnakevicius figured when he created “The Zoo,” a photo series based on travels through Amsterdam, Holland, and London.
Cesnakevicius shared with Bored Panda that while observing “the different cultures and nationalities” of passerby’s on the streets of Amsterdam, he noticed that there were no sneers or comments between the diverse types of people.
The realization was so profound, the photographer had a thought: “a hairy beast walking wouldn’t bother anybody too much here, as long as it minded its own business.”
And so, the photo series of wild animals co-existing with humans in the streets of an urban city was born.
The artist shared:
“Why do I have this type of thoughts anyway (tolerance between different people is, or at least is supposed to be, a common thing in civilized society)? I was born and raised in Lithuania, a former republic of now non-existing country of Soviet Union. A country, where everybody standing out of grey mass was completely legally bullied or even persecuted by the state.
Having experienced the dark side of being outside of that “happy community”, while growing, and being in the distance of some 25 years from those days, I am thinking, what kind of person would I be, having been grown in a slightly more tolerant society.”
